Assistant Professor of Chemistry (Biochemistry)

Transylvania University (www.transy.edu) invites applications for a 9-month, tenure-track position in Chemistry, beginning August 25, 2027. The chemistry program, with an emphasis on laboratory experiences, prepares students for a wide range of careers including biochemistry, chemical engineering, environmental science, materials science, medicine and other health care areas. Students learn to become skilled problem solvers and develop a strong foundation in all areas of chemistry. The program also supports students from a wide range of other programs, such as biology, neuroscience, and health and exercise science.

Who Are We Looking For?

Eligible candidates will have a Ph.D. by the start date. The successful candidate will have expertise in Biochemistry or Bioorganic Chemistry, a commitment to teaching, value interdisciplinary dialogue, and work collaboratively with other faculty. The teaching load consists of two classes with laboratory sections per regular term and a single class during May term (2-2-1).

Responsibilities include:

  • Teach (1) Biochemistry course, currently offered each regular term, and (2) the two-semester sequence of either Organic Chemistry (preferred) or General Chemistry.
  • Occasional contributions to First-Year programming and service as an academic adviser.
  • Other responsibilities include academic scholarship/professional activity, preferably involving undergraduate students, and service to the university through various committee appointments.
