Transylvania University invites applications for Security/Safety Specialist.  The Security Specialist is a non-sworn administrative position that provides specialized support to the Department of Public Safety. The position manages emergency preparedness, and departmental support functions. Key responsibilities include management of the Crimson Card program, door access control program, training program coordination, parking planning coordination, support for the University Safety Committee, CERT program assistance for emergency readiness. This position ensures compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations while fostering a culture of safety and accountability on campus.

Essential Duties – Security Specialist:

  1. Administer and oversee the University Crimson Card identification system, including issuance, maintenance, and access control coordination.
  2. Manage the door access program.
  3. Support parking program planning and policy development; assist with parking allocation, data analysis, and enforcement strategies.
  4. Provide administrative and logistical support to the University Safety Committee, including scheduling, agenda preparation, and follow-up on recommendations.
  5. Assist the Director of Public Safety in managing the Campus Emergency Response Team (CERT) program with a focus on preparedness, training, and readiness planning.
  6. Coordinate emergency preparedness initiatives, including drills, training, and documentation for compliance and readiness standards.
  7. Training program coordinator.
  8. Serve as a liaison on campus and with other law enforcement agencies. This will include reporting to Justice Cabinet all reports required.
  9. Maintain records, reports, and statistical data for compliance and administrative purposes.
  10. Assist the Director of Public Safety with departmental projects, compliance initiatives, and other duties as assigned.

Supporting Duties – Support Clery Compliance Officer with DPS role in Clery and Minger reporting:

  1. Support the institution’s Timely Warning and Emergency Notification programs in collaboration with the Clery Officer and Chief of Public Safety.
  2. Ensure compliance with daily crime log requirements and serve as custodian of crime records for DPS.
  3. Stay informed of updates to the Clery Act.
  4. Provide training and awareness programs for campus stakeholders related to Clery and emergency readiness.
     

Education and Experience:

●        Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, emergency management, higher education administration, or a related field preferred.

●        Experience in emergency management is preferred. 

●        Experience with compliance, investigations, or campus safety is strongly preferred.

●        Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and database systems.

●        Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and maintain confidentiality.
