, ,Transylvania University (www.transy.edu), a top-tier, independent, residential liberal arts college of 1,000 students in Lexington, Kentucky, invites applications for the on-campus position of Biology Lab Coordinator. This is a ten-month position (typically mid-August through mid-June) at 32 hours per week.
The person selected will work with faculty, students, and staff to ensure proper preparation and set-up of labs in the Biology program, as well as maintaining chemical and equipment inventory (including ordering, record keeping, maintenance, and calibration as needed). The Coordinator will ensure that each laboratory session is appropriately set up, stocked, cleaned, reorganized, and reset for the next session. The Coordinator will also ensure teaching labs and prep room safety equipment are in order and are properly tested and inspected annually. Additional responsibilities include supporting student work and projects in the lab, working closely with the faculty to manage and maintain all living stock organisms required for classes, and organizing and overseeing the proper disposal of biohazard materials and chemical waste.
Requirements: A bachelor’s degree in the natural sciences is required; professional experience in higher education labs is preferred. Previous experience making growth media, molecular biology reagents, and maintaining live organisms is a plus. This job requires a high level of initiative and problem solving, so you must be able to identify potential problems and work towards solutions. The successful candidate will also be able to work collaboratively and efficiently with faculty, staff, and students.
