Transylvania University invites applications for a Floor Care Specialist.  The Floor Care Specialist follows established procedures and guidelines to maintain buildings, classrooms, offices, restrooms, and furnishings of the University. This individual will be responsible for keeping floors aesthetically pleasing and free from harmful microorganisms. 

Essential Duties:

  • Sweeps, vacuums, mops, runs buffer, strips, and waxes floors and stairs.
  • Cleans restrooms:
    • Washes and disinfects surfaces and fixtures using specific chemicals.
    • Restocks paper products.
    • Refills soap dispensers.
    • Removes all trash.
  • Cleans classroom and office furniture and equipment:
    • Washes whiteboards or blackboards.
    • Cleans desks, chairs, and tables.
    • Re-aligns desks, tables, and chairs.
    • Removes all trash.
    • Dusts behind all flat surfaces.
  • Cleans interior walls:
    • Removes all tacks, staples, tape, etc.
    • Washes walls to remove graffiti.
  • Washes all interior glass including windows, mirrors, and door glass.
  • Removes all trash from assigned areas and empties trash into designated outside dumpsters.
  • Removes all recyclable trash from assigned areas and empties recyclable material into dumpsters.
  • Uses chemicals properly and safely:
    • Wears prescribed protective clothing, masks, gloves, boots, etc.
    • Applies chemicals properly on designated surfaces.
    • Disposes of residual chemical products as directed or stores and labels them for future use.

Secondary Duties:

  • Prepares classrooms, auditoriums, and outdoor locations for special events:
    • Moves existing furniture.
    • Sets up equipment, tables, chairs, etc.
  • Responds to emergency situations that may cause property damage, personal injury, or both including water leaks, flooding, broken windows, or appearance of bodily fluids by following procedures prescribed for each situation.
  • Actively participates in the on call rotation
  • Responds to afterhours calls and covers needed after hours events while on the on call rotation
  • Covers after hours events when necessary
  • Trains employees on proper floor care procedures 
  • Repairs vacuum cleaners and buffers.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Education and Experience:

A grade school education and six months of related experience is required. A high school or equivalent education with one or more years of related experience is preferred. A minimum of 5 years of experience pertaining to flooring care specifically. Must be knowledgeable of proper LVT, carpet, hardwood, engineered wood, vinyl, laminate, rubber, concrete and may various tile cleaning, care, maintenance techniques and procedures.
