Transylvania University invites applications for a FT Police Officer/Supervisor. The Supervisor/Sergeant supports the safety, security, and public service goals of the University by leading shift operations, mentoring officers, and ensuring adherence to departmental policies and procedures. This position plays a critical role in upholding Transylvania University's standards of excellence in campus safety and community engagement.

Essential Duties

Job Skills/Requirements

The Police Officer/Sergeant will oversee the daily operational activities of peace officers assigned to a specific shift. Primary responsibilities include:

  • Supervising and coordinating the activities of Peace Officers on shift.
  • Ensuring compliance with university policies, state and local laws, and departmental protocols.
  • Providing training, mentorship, and performance feedback to subordinate officers.
  • Assisting with emergency response coordination and crisis management efforts.
  • Investigating incidents and preparing detailed reports.
  • Monitoring campus safety operations include patrol coverage, parking enforcement, monitoring cameras, controlling door access, and community outreach.
  • Participating in the hiring and onboarding of new personnel as needed.
  • Promoting and maintaining a safe and secure campus environment.

The Police OfficerSergeant must maintain a strong, visible presence across campus, model professionalism, and promote a positive image of the University.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience/education in law enforcement, campus safety, or equivalent public safety role.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Commission as a Special Local Peace Officer with the Kentucky Law Enforcement Council.
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Prior law enforcement certification is strongly preferred.
  • Prior supervisory or leadership experience is strongly preferred.
