, ,Transylvania University (www.transy.edu), a top-tier, independent, residential liberal arts college in Lexington, Kentucky, invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Education. This is a tenure-track position, teaching in-person classes, beginning August 29, 2025. Job Responsibilities:
Teaching responsibilities include, but are not limited to, Foundations of Education, Philosophy of Education, Readings in Peace Education, and Schooling in U.S. Culture. A hallmark of the Transylvania Education Program is a commitment to diversity, with a strong critical and theoretical foundation in all courses which serve not only the Education and Social Change major and minor, but the liberal arts general education curriculum as well. Other duties may include, on a rotating basis, supervision of student internship opportunities and/or clinical experiences. The candidate will be expected to assist program colleagues with programmatic affairs like new course development and collaboration with colleagues in other disciplines. The teaching load consists of three courses per semester, plus one short-term course in May (3-3-1) that offers additional opportunities for travel courses, team-taught courses and other more experimental classroom endeavors. Other responsibilities include academic scholarship/ professional activity and service to the university through various committee appointments. All faculty serve as academic advisors. The university also has an excellent faculty development program that competitively funds faculty (and student) scholarly research and artistic projects.
Qualifications:
Candidates should have a Ph.D. or Ed.D. in education policy studies, education foundations, education philosophy or a related field by the start date, and they must demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate, liberal arts education. College level teaching experience is preferred, as is some experience at the P-12 level. Interest and/or experience with English Language Learners and/or immigration issues in education is also preferred, but not required.
In addition to excellent teaching, the successful candidate will be responsible for engaging in scholarly activity, with the potential for collaborating with undergraduates, and serving on university-wide committees. The candidate must demonstrate a commitment to continuing their own professional work along with a commitment to teaching, interdisciplinary dialogue, and working collaboratively with other faculty and with students both within the Education Program and across disciplines within a liberal arts environment.
